MICRO LINE-40

Dry Film Developer

Description:

MICRO LINE-40 is a highly concentrated potassium carbonate solution with additives designed to enhance developing of aqueous dry film photoresists, aid rinsing, and minimizing scale buildup in conveyorized developing equipment.

Benefits:

  • Better sidewalls.
  • Faster developing.
  • Cleaner rinsing.
  • Reduced scale.

Properties:

Form:                                   Water-white liquid
pH, concentrate:                 >12
pH, 1% solution:                11.49
Specific gravity:                 1.410

K2CO3/liter:                       563.9 grams
Weight/Gallon                    11.76
Solubility, water:                Infinite
Odor:                                    None

Applications:

MICRO LINE-40 is intended for developing aqueous processable dry film photoresists and liquid photoimageable solder masks.

Directions For Use:

MAKE UP: Multiply bath size in gallons by desired bath strength in percent. Then divide by .5639 to determine the number of gallons of MICRO LINE-40 needed for make up. EXAMPLE: To make up a 100 gallon bath at .85%, multiply by 100 X .0085 = 0.85. Then divide 0.85 by 0.5639 to get 1.5073, or 1.5 gallons of MICRO LINE-40 to make up the bath.

TIME: Depends on developer concentration, temperature, and resist thickness. Most aqueous resists require a breakpoint of 50 to 60% through the spray cleaner.

TEMPERATURE: Per specification of photoresist manufacturer.

CONCENTRATION: Per specification of photoresist manufacturer.

OPERATION: Conveyorized spray.

Maintenance:

For automatic replenishment systems (feed and bleed), maintain pH between 10.6 and 10.8. Non-replenished solutions should be disposed when the pH drops below 10.4.

Control:

Developer solutions are usually controlled by pH, but may be monitored by wet analysis if desired.

Analytical Procedure for % K2CO3 (fresh make-up):

  1. Equipment:
    1. 25 ml pipet
    2. 250 ml beaker
    3. 100 ml measuring
    4. 50 ml buret
  2. Reagents:
    1. 0.1 Normal HCL
    2. 0.1 % Methyl Orange indicator
    3. D.I. Water
  3. Procedure:
    1. Pipet 25 ml sample into 250 ml beaker
    2. Add 100 ml D.I. water
    3. Add 1 ml indicator
    4. Titrate with 0.1N HCL to a pink end-point
  4. Calculation:
    1. ml HCL X 0.1N X 0.276 = % K2CO3

Analytical Procedure for % K2CO3 (Working Bath):

  1. Equipment:
    1. 10 ml pipet
    2. 250 ml beaker
    3. 100 ml measuring
    4. pH Meter
  2. Reagents:
    1. pH 4 buffer solution
    2. 0.1 Normal HCL
    3. D.I. Water
  3. Procedure:
    1. Pipet 10 ml sample into 250 ml beaker
    2. Add 100 ml D.I. water
    3. Use buffer to standardize pH meter
    4. Insert electrodes into sample solution
    5. Titrate carefully with 0.1N HCL to a pH of 8.2
    6. Record ml 0.1 N HCL used.
  4. Calculation:
    1. ml of 0.1 N HCL X 0.1382 = % K2CO3
    2. ml of 0.1 N HCL X 0.06 = % active

NOTE: The procedure for checking the concentration of potassium carbonate in a freshly made solution is not applicable to a working bath due to the formation of potassium bicarbonate as a byproduct of development.

Safety:

MICRO LINE-40 is strongly alkaline and should be handled accordingly. Use rubber gloves, safety glasses, and chemical apron when handling this material. In case of skin contact flush immediately with copious quantities of cool fresh water. In case of eye contact flush with fresh, cool water for 15 minute and see a physician. Avoid breathing vapors. Inc case of ingestion give plenty of water and call a physician. Do not induce vomiting.

Storage:

Keep containers sealed. Keep partial containers closed at all times. Store product away from sources of direct heat. Keep away from acid materials and reducing agents. Store product between 40° and 90°F. MICRO LINE-40 will crystallize below 40°F and stratify above 90°F. Should either of these conditions occur it will be necessary to return the solution to ambient temperatures and mix thoroughly before dispensing.

Shelf Life:

MICRO LINE-40 is guaranteed for six (6) months from date of receipt in unopened containers.

Containers:

Five gallon pails and 55 gallon nonreturnable plastic drums.
