DURASTRIP ARS-10

Alkaline Aqueous Resist Stripper

Description:

DURASTRIP ARS-10 is an alkaline stripper concentrate designed to strip aqueous and semi-aqueous dry film photo resists and alkaline strippable screen inks. DURASTRIP ARS-10 contains no hazardous solvents, has a very low odor level, exhibits minimal foaming, and doesn't stain or oxidize circuit board substrates.

Benefits:

  • Minimal odor.
  • Fast stripping
  • High load capacity
  • Does not promote oxidation & staining.

Properties:

Form:                                   Clear, water-white liquid
pH, concentrate:                 >14
pH, @ 15% by volume:     12.5
Specific gravity:                 1.036 @ 60°F
Weight/Gallon                    8.64 lbs
Solubility, water:                Infinite
Flash point:                         >220° TCC
Odor:                                    Mild, characteristic

Applications:

DURASTRIP ARS-10 was designed to strip aqueous resists and to clean stripping residues for optical testing. Due to the speed of most conveyorized stripping machines, the stripper removes the resist coating, but hasn't time to clean the inevitable residue left at the resist/copper interface. This problem is resolved by going to (1) a two chamber stripper, (2) a static tank strip followed by a single chamber strip, or (3) by slowing the conveyor to give the solution time to clean the board. Many downstream problems can be resolved in this way.

Directions For Use:

Bath Make-up:                             10 to 15% by volume with water
Temperature:                                  125°F ± 5° F
Time:                                              30 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes depending on temperature, resist type, and exposure level.
Concentration:                             10% by volume for screen inks. 15% by volume for dry film photo resists.
Operation:                                     Static tank or spray

Equipment:

TANKS: polypropylene, PVC, PVDC, polypropylene

HEATERS: Titanium, Stainless Steel, Quartz, Teflon Coated

SPRAY MODULES: PVC, polypropylene, 316 s/s and titanium

RACKS: 316 Stainless Steel

Maintenance:

There are three (3) methods of maintaining DURASTRIP ARS-10: (1) conveyor-breakpoint, (2) pH control, or (3) by titration to maintain % by volume. A conveyorized spray system with an efficient mans of resist particle removal will generally have longer stripper life than one that does not. Under such conditions a 15% make-up will tolerate up to three (3) replenishments of 4 -5 % by volume before ceasing to function adequately. A fresh 15% bath will have a pH of 12.5. The bath will not function below a pH of 9.0

Control:

Analytical procedure for percent by volume of stripper:

  1. REAGENTS
    1. Hydrochloric acid, 1.0 Normal
    2. Phenolphthalien indicator solution.
  2. APPARATUS
    1. Flask, 250 ml
    2. One 10 ml pipet
    3. One 50 ml buret
  3. PROCEDURE
    1. Pipet 10 ml sample from bath into 250 ml flask
    2. Add 100 to 150 ml distilled water.
    3. Add several drops of indicator
    4. Titrate from a reddish pink to a pale pink end point.
  4. CALCULATIONS
    1. ml of titrate X Normality X 13.52 / ml of sample = percent of volume

Safety:

DURASTRIP ARS-10 is a strong alkaline solution and should be used in accordance with proper and appropriate safety practices. Goggles, face shield, apron, gloves, and any other appropriate safety equipment should be worn when mixing or otherwise handling this material. Proper exhaust to keep fumes out of the work area is a must.

In case of skin contact flush with copious quantities of fresh, cool water. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with cool fresh water for 15 minutes by the clock minimum and consult a physician immediately. In case of accidental ingestion, consult a physician immediately.

Disposal:

  1. Lower the pH of the spent solution with sulfuric acid to pH of 1.5 to 2.0 to coagulate any dissolved resist.
  2. Separate by decantation or filtration and dispose of the solid, according to local, state, and federal regulations.
  3. Raise the pH with sodium hydroxide to 8 to 9.
  4. Treat with sodium sulfide or thiocarbamate and filter for removal of metals such as copper, tin and lead. NOTE: If solution is allowed to become acidic, poisonous sulfide gas will form. Do not let pH drop below 7.
  5. Check with local, state, and federal agencies for disposal of remaining liquid material.

Storage:

Keep containers sealed. Keep partial containers closed at all times. Store product away from sources of direct heat. Keep away from acidic materials and strong oxidizing agents.

Shelf Life:

DURASTRIP ARS-10 is guaranteed for (1) year from date of receipt in unopened containers.

Containers:

Five gallon pails and 55 gallon nonreturnable plastic drums.
